MONTROSE COUNTY MASTER PLAN UPDATE

Montrose County, Colorado

A Master Plan is the County’s guide for making land use decisions.  It is based on the community’s values and vision for the future.  The Master Plan guides decision-makers towards the community vision through goals and prioritized implementation strategies.  Expressed graphically with a land use map, verbally through policies, and eventually formally codified in land development codes, the Master Plan coordinates and acts as a foundation for various County plans (i.e. capital improvement plans, street plans, utility plans, and so on).  In short, it gives guidance to County planning efforts and municipalities to implement a unified vision.

Montrose County kicked off the update process in October of 2008 and it is expected to be completed by November of 2009.  The Master Plan is being developed through an interactive community effort and will play an important role in guiding the future growth and development of the County.

For the Master Plan to be a useful and valuable resource, it is imperative that the public participate in this process!   Your input is requested and valued!  Without public participation, County staff and Commissioners have no means of knowing the community’s true values and overall vision. There are a number of public meetings scheduled during the update process.  We hope to see you there!
