Carson City Parks and Recreation Master Plan
& Unified Pathways Master Plan
Carson City, Nevada
Building on an extensive existing park system, Carson City Nevada wanted to consolidate various priorities, agendas and needs into a comprehensive plan to guide park acquisition, recreation amenities and development into the future. The plan, built on the foundation of data and Carson City resident input, addressed all types of recreation in the City, from indoor recreation center and sports parks to passive recreation (picnicking and theater), natural parks and programming.
A separate “trails” plan, called the Unified Pathways MP was needed to address the extensive and diverse pathways and their uses for the City. Classified as “non-automobile” travel routes, the pathways plan included horse trails, on-street bike trails, hiking trails and most uniquely, a river corridor “aquatic trail”. The plan has already been put to use in gaining support and funding for pathway improvements and new linkages through open space and between existing City parks.
